Weird Fishes

Synopsis

Zuka, a refugee displaced by war, has spent years living alone in a small seaside town. As a child, while fleeing across the sea, his mother fell from their ship and drowned — leaving him without a grave or any place to mourn her memory. Haunted by the desire to “hear” his mother once again, Zuka becomes obsessed with building a device that can transmit the sounds of the ocean floor back to the shore. During this journey, he meets a young woman who becomes his only companion and guiding force. In the end, Zuka descends into the depths to place the device, but never returns. As for the girl left alone on the shore, she listens to the sounds rising from the deep — as if they were the whispers of Zuka and his mother.
