Synopsis
The Brink of Ice is a stark, cinematic exploration of a landscape in transition, documenting the fragile existence of Ladakh—a region where life is a gift sustained almost entirely by ice. As the trans-Himalayan ecosystem faces an unprecedented climatic shift, the film captures a pivotal moment in history where ancient frozen reservoirs are failing for the first time. The documentary focuses on the alarming trend of diminishing snowfall and rising temperatures that have left Ladakh’s winters unrecognizable. Highlighting the "snowless Januaries" of 2024 and 2025, the film illustrates how the absence of seasonal snow acts as a death knell for the region’s 2,200 glaciers. No longer replenished by winter storms, these glaciers are rapidly receding, under the weight of global warming and the invisible hand of "Black Carbon"—soot that darkens the peaks and accelerates the melting process.
